Transition

This week I decided to look at the word Transition. While walking around the city centre I noticed that something that is all over the city are street signs and directions. These are a transition as they move you from one area to another so this is what I decided to look at.

Recession

For this mini assignment we were given another small selection of words to choose from. We went out and decided to have a walk around the old town area of Hull and the Marina area to see what we could shoot.

Overall i had a quite successful couple of hours and got a few shots that i was happy with but unfortunately they didn't all fit into the word i had chosen.
I decided to choose the word 'Recession' as this is something that is affecting everyone at the moment.

'Splash of Colour'

We were given a short assignment were we had to choose a word or phrase and take one photo based around that word. I chose the phrase 'Splash of Colour' as it gave me an idea straight away.

I decided to have a walk around the Wincolmlee area of Hull which is very industrial as you often see a bright bit of colour surrounded by dull industrial buildings.

Close Ups

At first i decided to re-do the cycle city mini assignment i did previously but there wasn't many bikes around so i decided to focus on one bike and do close ups.

Fashion Finals

I've recently got my 5 final shots printed and mounted for the Fashion brief. I'm really pleased with them as i think the images work well but also the mounting worked a lot better than the last time i used it.

I originally had problems with models as i had a couple of cancelled shoots and then with the snow i had to cancel a further two shoots. I eventually had a couple of good shoots and got the images i needed.

These are the 5 final images i have chosen and i am overall really pleased with them. I think i used off camera flash effectively to create some interesting fashion shots.

Studio Short Assignment 2

For my next short assignment i chose to create an image which had a graduate for the background. I chose to do this assignment as i thought it sounded like it would create a very interesting image.

This is the image that i created which uses a gradient as the background. I'm really pleased with this image as i think it used a gradient very well. It starts from quite a dark grey colour and softly changes to a light grey colour. I am really pleased as this is what i was trying to create. To do this i simply placed a softbox directly above the bottle which created the gradient.

Dark Field Lighting

For this short assignment we had to look into what dark field lighting is and create our own photo that uses the technique.

Dark field lighting is a lighting technique used in studio photography when photographing objects that are clear or nearly clear, such as glass or clear plastic objects. There are a few different ways of creating dark field lighting but the most popular is to use two lights, one at either side of the object facing the side of the object. This is then usually combined with a dark background so that only the edges of the object show.

Here is the photo that i took while trying to create dark field lighting.

Overall i am a little unpleased with the image. I used two softboxes, one at each side of the scene. I think i didn't quite recreate dark field lighting as there is too much detail in the glass. I added the bottle to add some interest but i think this may not have worked as the white label has bounced a lot of reflections into the glass. Also i think the angle of the softboxes could have been improved as as the white stripes down the sides of the bottle are a little too wide. Overall i think it is a reasonably good image but i think it needs some work to make it fit into dark field lighting.
